Submission on the proposed national policy statements on urban development and highly productive land

25 October 2019

The Government is consulting on and developing two national policy statements that impact land use: the National Policy Statement on Urban Development and the National Policy Statement for Highly Productive Land.

Access to affordable housing lies at the heart of the first of these, while limiting potential urban expansion at the expense of some of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most valuable land for food production is the driver behind the second.

Given that the impact of these policy proposals may overlap in the same spatial context, this submission provides feedback on both policy proposals; first on urban development and then on highly productive land.
