Feedback to the Ministry for the Environment: 2050 Emissions Reduction Target

Climate change is the biggest environmental challenge of our time. As the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment, much of my work relates to the need to make the transition to a low-carbon economy. This includes my recommendations for changes to the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), New Zealand’s principal mechanism for reaching a greenhouse gas target. As a continuation of that work, here I provide feedback on the proposed 2050 target.
