I reviewed progress towards the outcomes sought in our 2004 report See Change - Learning and education for sustainability (see below). Progress has been made across all sectors in most of the areas for action identified in that report. In some cases, initiatives have been fully implemented; in others, activities are just gaining momentum and will need long-term support.

New Zealand is now in a much stronger position than before See Change was published to educate citizens and to support learning at all levels for sustainability.

However, opportunities remain for further progress in all sectors. The momentum, funding and support for recent initiatives must be maintained, and increased in some cases. Fully achieving all areas for action identified in See Change will require sustained efforts over a long timeframe.
