The Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment, Dr Jan Wright, is pleased that local residents need have no concern about the mercury levels in the soil at the former contaminated site at Mapua.
"I congratulate Tasman District Council on the speed with which they followed up on my recommendation to do further soil testing for mercury," says Dr Wright
Tasman District Council's additional testing showed that mercury levels in the soil were below the recommended level for residential soils.
